Event GLEANhosted at EU project SESBA meetup in Greece - Synergies with EU projects
October 2016

GLEAN project was actively disseminated and project leaflets were distributed during the Meetup on “Social Entrepreneurship: Advice and Advisers” organisedon 25 October 2016 at Europe Direct of the Municipality of Athens, Greece in the frame of Erasmus+ project Social Entreprise Skills for Business Advisers SESBA. Interesting interventions, great participation and knowledge sharing on the needs and challenges of social entrepreneurs, across sectors, including agriculture, in tandem with the needs of business advisers when it comes to consulting social entreprises.

Event GLEAN hosted at Open Seminar on Mobile Working in Greece
October 2016

GLEAN project was actively disseminated and project leaflets were distributed during the Open seminar on "Mobile Working: Approach your professional future differently" addressed to unemployed students, graduates, professionals and NEETs of the Attica region of Greece, the largest region with the highest unemployment rate.The seminar was held in the frame of the innovative grassroots initiative Mellon Skills Accelerator implemented by Social entreprise knowl for education and lifelong learning.

Event GLEAN final conference is held in Bologna with great success and participation!
July 2016

The final conference of the project “Opening up Career Paths in Agriculturefor young NEETs: Innovation and inclusion – sharing experiences and perspectives” was organisedon 13 July 2016 in Bologna by the project leader Centre for Studies and Analysis of Psychology and Sociology Applied/CSAPSA social cooperative and project partner MeliusInternational Mobility and Employment s.r.l.under the auspices of the Emilia-Romagna region. The conference was held with great success and participation by partners, GLEAN trainers and young trainees that shared their insights from the training process with the audience and lit up the ambiance with their presence!

Event GLEAN project hosted in Europe Day 2016 in Greece
July 2016

GLEAN project was hosted and promo material was distributed during the Europe Day 2016 celebrations held at the Greek island of Crete, in cooperation with the European Parliament Information Office and the European Commission Representation in Greece. Many people visited the Europe Day stands with info material and participated at the different parallel events in the city of Chania in Crete, the largest island with major agricultural activity.

Outcome The GLEAN e-learning tool for skills’ training in agriculture has been launched!
July 2016

The GLEAN e-learning tool has been launched! Three Modules on Soft Skills, General Technical Skills and Specialised Technical Skills with a number of units and sections, interactive tests, PowerPoint presentations, further reading and audiovisual material in 4 languages (English, Italian, Greek and Spanish) are gradually being uploaded. The e-learning tool aims to support the delivery of the NEET Employability/Entrepreneurship Programme (NEEP), namely the GLEAN blended learning model for career paths in agriculture.

We have launched the GLEAN community on Facebook bringing together all stakeholders, partners, trainers, trainees exploring and promoting career paths in agriculture in the frame of the GLEAN project. The aim of the community is to establish contact, collaboration and partnerships among the GLEAN partners and training institution representatives but also, mainly, among the different GLEAN trainees from Italy, Spain and Greece. At the same time, we aim to expand this community to include more related stakeholders and open up more career paths in agriculture to promote employability.

EventGLEAN Final Conference in Bologna, Italy

“Innovation and inclusion: sharing experiences and perspectives” is the topic of the final conference of the GLEAN project held in Bologna. The conference is held under the auspices of the Emilia Romagna region. Partners will present the results of the GLEAN intensive trainings in the 3 project countries and exchange views in roundtables with local stakeholders on the local network and the NEEP training path.

EventGLEAN on-the-job trainings for NEETs in Italy, Greece and Spain
December 2015 - June 2016

Trainings have been ongoing during the last few months in GLEAN project partner countries Italy, Greece and Spain! More than 50 young people not in education, employment or training have joined the intensive on-the-job training courses, consisting of 700 hours of study, including theoretical training on the acquisition of soft skills (safety at the workplace, foreign languages, management, etc.), an emphasis to the attainment of practical experience on the field and individual study.

EventProject meeting in Alcalá la Real, Spain
April 2016

The GLEAN project meeting was held in Alcalá la Real, Spain, kindly hosted by partner Diputación Provincial de Jaén. Partners were welcomed by the Mayor of the city Mr. Carlos Antonio Hinojosa Hidalgo and the Municipal Council Member responsible for agriculture and the environment Mr. Cristobal Cano Martin and had the chance to present and discus the project results and their added value for employability of NEETs in agriculture. Partners also exchanged views and information on the national blended learning and training sessions in Greece, Italy and Spain!

American Farm School - Perrotis College is organising a 4-month free educational programme in Greece for youth 18-30 years old on bio agriculture in the framework of EU co-funded project GLEAN Growing Levels of Employability | Entrepreneurship in Agriculture for NEETs. H Αμερικανική Γεωργική Σχολή - Κολέγιο Perrotis υλοποιεί ένα δωρεάν εκπαιδευτικό πρόγραμμα για 15 νέους από 18 έως 30 ετών στον τομέα της οικολογικής γεωργίας, των αρωματικών φυτών και της ελαιοκομίας με πρακτική άσκηση στην εκπαιδευτική φάρμα της Σχολής από το Φεβρουάριο έως και το Μάιο του 2016. Το πρόγραμμα υλοποείται στο πλαίσιο του ευρωπαϊκού (Erasmus+) έργου GLEAN που προωθεί επαγγελματικές και επιχειρηματικές προοπτικές στον αγροτικό τομέα. Παράλληλα με την ως άνω εκπαίδευση, οι συμμετέχοντες που θα επιλεγούν, θα εκπαιδευθούν σε τεχνικές δεξιότητες, όπως η χρήση φυτοφαρμάκων, μέθοδοι λίπανσης, χρήση Η/Υ, ανάπτυξη βιογραφικού σημειώματος, χρήση γεωργικών εργαλείων αλλά και σε κοινωνικές δεξιότητες. Η εκπαίδευση θα γίνεται πρωινές ώρες 2 φορές την εβδομάδα στο campus της Σχολής. Δεν είναι υποχρεωτική η έκδοση κάρτας ανεργίας. Outcome GLEAN project publishes study on "NEETs and agriculture: a new approach for employability and entrepreneurship"
December 2015

The study presents the results of the research undertaken by the GLEAN partners with the aim to investigate methods, formats and topics used by institutions, organisations, associations and other players in civil society to promote acquisition of self-awareness and personal development in NEETs. Εxamples and descriptions were collected from 17 European countries, offering a meaningful overview about running practices to involve NEETs through agriculture.

Following a brief overview on the topic and the concept of NEET and the situation in Europe, with a focus on the countries of the consortium, where the NEET Employability/Entrepreneurship Training Programme under development will be tested, a description of the adopted methodology and related tools for practices collection is made. Findings and examples of the review exercise are presented and overall conclusions and recommendations for the design of the GLEAN programme are drawn. Event Infoday in Spain by project partner Diputación Provincial de Jaén
November 2015

A presentation was made in Jaén, Spain of the NEET Employability / Entrepreneurship Programme (NEEP), a transversal learning programme for the development of technical and soft skills aimed at young people, focusing on learning the job in the agricultural field.
The programme, developed under the Erasmus+ co-funded GLEAN project, will be implemented with the participation of 15 young people and a duration of 700 hours. As stated by Christopher Cano, Council Member responsible for Agriculture and the Environment, "this meeting will serve to present the training project aimed at young people of Castle Alcaudete Locubín, Friars and Alcala la Real. This is a new training opportunity in Alcalá, where the agricultural sector has so much potential, and important synergies with companies can be established in this direction".



Event GLEAN 3rd project meeting was held in Greece
September 2015

The 3rd GLEAN project meeting was held in the city of Thessaloniki in Northern Greece hosted by renowned project partner American Farm School. Partners discussed the structure and the e-learning platform of the NEET Employability/Entrepreneurship Programme (NEEP), one of the main objectives of the project, measured progress and decided the next steps in the development of the NEEP. In the framework of the meeting, partners were also shown around selected parts of the precious history, nature and agricultural production of the wider region of Thessaloniki and Central Macedonia. Event GLEAN focus groups held in the three target countries: Greece, Italy, Spain
September 2015

Focus groups with stakeholders of the GLEAN project targets groups, namely NEETs, VET trainers, agriculturalists, farmers and farmers’ associations, policy makers and others, were held with great interest and success in the three project target countries (Greece, Italy and Spain) greatly affected by the NEETs issue. Partners presented and discussed the structure, initial content and training framework of the NEET Employability/Entrepreneurship Programme (NEEP) in view of registering multiple stakeholders’ input and feeding it into the development of the final NEEP to better address the needs of the end users.



Outcome GLEAN Research Database launched!
September 2015

The GLEAN research database hosting more than 30 practices on Promoting Employability & Entrepreneurship in Agriculture from all over Europe was launched.
The database has been developed mainly through desk research by all members of the GLEAN project consortium, which count valuable expertise in the related topics. The database lists valuable European practices while confirming the added value of the GLEAN project and the NEET Employability/Entrepreneurship Programme (NEEP) that it is developing.

Report Eurofound report on the characteristics, costs and policy responses for NEETs in Europe
April 2015

Access the Eurofound report analysing the labour market situation of young people in Europe, with a specific focus on NEETs (young people not in employment, education or training), a direct target group of the GLEAN project. It examines the determinants of belonging to the NEET group, and measures the economic and social costs of NEETs. It also assesses how Member States through policies and interventions have sought to support young people to gain a foothold in the labour market. It shows that successful policy initiatives address specific, disadvantaged subgroups in the NEET population. They are client-centred in their efforts to set young people on a pathway to long-term, sustainable employment and they are innovative, adopting new ways of reaching a target group. See more here.



Event GLEAN 2nd project meeting in Jaén, Spain
March 2015

The 2nd GLEAN project meeting took place in Jaén, Spain hosted by project partner Diputación Provincial de Jaén. The team met to discuss project progress, examine the work plan, finalise the methodology for the development of the GLEAN research database of practices on Promoting Employability & Entrepreneurship in Agriculture from all over Europe and decide the next steps of the project.

Partners were also shown around local agricultural best practices, discussing successes, challenges and the prospects of employability of young NEETs in the agricultural field, which were confirmed as very promising. GLEAN is progressing in developing the NEET Employability/Entrepreneurship Programme (NEEP), a learning pathway blending theory with on-the-field training for increasing employability in agriculture for NEETs. Event The GLEAN project kicks off in Bologna, Italy
4-5 December 2014

The GLEAN project kicked off in Bologna with great success. The project team from Italy, Spain and Greece, namely three countries greatly affected by the NEETs (people not in education, employment or training) issue, discussed the details of the project, next steps and plan of cooperation. Next steps include delivering a research database on practices for promoting employability and entrepreneurship in agriculture in Europe, developing the structure of the NEET Employability/Entrepreneurship Programme (NEEP), a transversal learning programme for the development of technical and soft skills of young NEETs to support career paths in agriculture, and testing it with representatives of target groups in the three countries.
